install sets up CC Safety Net in a coding agent CLI. Run it with no flag to pick agents from a list, or pass exactly one target flag for a scripted install. A failed target exits 1 with a hint about the cause.
See Installation for per-agent steps and what each install changes.

install target flags

install accepts sixteen targets. Each agent’s page says what its install writes or runs. Pass at most one flag. With more than one, install prints Choose exactly one install|uninstall target: followed by the flag list, and exits 1. An unknown option or an extra argument is also an error.

npx cache clearing

Antigravity CLI, Cursor, Devin CLI, Factory Droid, Grok Build, Hermes Agent, and Kimi Code run their hook through npx. Before install sets up one of these, it deletes the cached cc-safety-net copies from the _npx folder of your npm cache, so the new hook runs the latest release. The npm cache is at:
  • $npm_config_cache, when that variable is set
  • ~/.npm on macOS and Linux
  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\npm-cache on Windows
uninstall does not touch the cache. update clears it once per run.

Selecting a target

With no flag in an interactive terminal, install lists the agents and labels each row: Cursor counts as installed when either cursor --version or cursor-agent --version succeeds.

Target selector keys

Cancelling the target selector

q or Esc prints Cancelled: nothing was installed. or Cancelled: nothing was uninstalled. and exits 0.

How install runs the selected targets

Some installs run the agent’s own CLI. If that command has not finished after 120 seconds, install stops it and reports the target as failed.

install failures and exit code

A failed install exits 1. install prints a hint for these errors:
  • a permissions problem
  • a missing path
  • a path component that is not a directory
